Violinist Chieko Arai is a versatile and passionate musician, actively performing as a recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral player. Having given distinguished performances throughout London, including a recital at St Martin in the fields and St James’s Piccadilly, Chieko is fast becoming known as a leading young musician. Having been accepted onto the Davey-Posnanski String Quartet Scheme and the Frost Trust ASSET scheme for 3 years, she was pleased to then be awarded the 1st prize in Ambache Chamber Music Prize 2018.
As a duo with pianist Mihaly Berecz, Chieko was awarded the 1st prize at the International Violin Competition ‘Inter Cordes’ in Paris As she gains recognition, she finds herself in high demand for collaborative work, with a wide variety of string quartets, other chamber music ensembles and with renowned musicians such as Nicola Benedetti, violist James Sleigh, and the Doric Quartet to name a few. Chieko also enjoys leading as a concertmaster of the Amadeus Orchestra.
As a recipient of a generous full scholarship, Chieko trained at The Royal Academy of Music, gaining her BMus with 1st class honours, a distinction for her MA in Performance and most recently her DipRAM, graduating with numerous discretionary awards. Chieko has benefited from further instruction through performing in masterclasses with maestro Gerhard Schulz at IMS Prussia Cove, with Maxim Vengerov, James Ehnes, and Olivier Charlier with Trio Owon, to name a few.
Future engagements include appointment as an Ambassador with the Benedetti Foundation, working alongside with Nicola Benedetti to develop educational environment for young string players, and participation in the Barenboim-Said Akademie Master Classes with Chaim Taub in October 2019.
