Helen Washington - West End pianist and MD
Pianist and Musical Director
Helen studied piano performance at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Whilst there she was awarded a scholarship from the Spanish government to study at The European Piano Course in Valencia, she was also chosen to represent the college at the EPTA conference at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Helen has a wide ranging taste in music and has worked in the West End for over 10yrs working as a keyboard player in the pit orchestras. She has worked on over 30 West End shows and tours, such as Chicago, Spamalot, Sister Act, Hairspray, Matilda and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory to name but a few. She appears on the cast recording for Scrooge, also worked for Granada TV on ‘This Morning’ and recently tutored Lily Collins for the film ‘Tolkien’ for Fox Spotlight. She runs her own choir and was the Children’s Musical Director on Shrek UK tour and is currently the Children’s Musical Director for Les Miserables as well as playing on various shows.
The Musical Director for shows at Mountview Theatre School, Guildford School of Acting, University of Central Lancashire and many more, Helen also runs Musical Theatre Workshops with the Resident Director of Phantom of the Opera, Mark Hedges. Helen would like students interested in light music, as well as the tradition piano repertoire, but also focuses on a solid piano technique! She also offers a crash course in Grade 5 theory and has a 100% pass rate for all ABRSM exams!
