Temirzhan Yerzhanov - Piano
International soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue
A graduate and former faculty member of The Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Temirzhan Yerzhanov launched his career by winning the First Prize and Gold Medal at the International Robert Schumann Piano Competition in Zwickau, Germany.
A student of renowned Professor Mikhail Voskressensky, Temirzhan also studied conducting with Latvian-American conductor Imants Kociņš. His own students include top prizewinners of major competitions such as The Tchaikovsky, The Queen Elisabeth, AXA, The Casagrande, The Viana da Mota, Epinal, The Lev Vlasenko and Porto and he gives many master classes at conservatories and universities in the USA, China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Russia, Germany and Kyrgyzstan.
In 2008 he was named ‘Best Performer of the Year’ by San Francisco Classical Voice and was awarded the Yenbek Sinirgen Qairatkeri, the highest honorary title in his native country for his national contribution.
Touring regularly in Germany, Russia, France, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, USA, China and India, Temirzhan has performed as a soloist with many orchestras including Moscow Radio Tchaikovsky Symphony, Philharmonisches Orchester Plauen-Zwickau, Sacramento Philharmonic, San Luis Obispo Symphony, The Kazakh Philharmonic and The Symphony Orchestra of India.
He has appeared in a wide range of venues such as Berlin Konzerthaus and Leipzig Gewandhaus, Wigmore Hall in London, Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and Dresden Sempergalerie, Salle Gaveau in Paris and Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York, Moscow and St. Petersburg Grand Philharmonic Halls.
Featured on broadcasts of BBC Radio, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Russia, Capital Radio Sacramento, Kazakh TV and many others, he has also been presented in live concert broadcasts and talk shows and had studio recordings made by Deutsche Radio Berlin, Hong Kong Radio and Russian Orpheus Radio.
He garnered much praise for his CD albums of Schumann works, released by RCD label and Prokofiev’s Cinderella-Suites and World recording premiere of Classical Symphony released by Con Brio Recordings.
A diverse musician, Temirzhan has a special affinity to vocal and instrumental music. He has collaborated with many artists including such acclaimed as Elena Kelessidi, Melody Moore (soprano), Catherine Cook (mezzo-soprano), Erik Kurmangaliev (male alto), Michael Collins (clarinet), Vasko Vassilev, Marat Bisengaliev (violin).
Conductors he has worked with include Vladimir Fedoseev, Lothar Seyfart, Johannes Wildner, Michael Morgan, Jiří Malát and many others. His World or National premieres include Almas Serkebaev's Piano Concerto, Igor Khudoley's Boris Godunov Suite, Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto, Rossini’s Petite Messe Sollennele and recital Prokofiev. Almaty. 1942-1943, featuring all the piano scores that composer wrote during his residency in Temirzhan’s home city.
