Tom Ellis - Guitar
Freelance guitarist and teacher at the Yehudi Menuhin School
An assistant guitar teacher at the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School and with experience performing in numerous London orchestras (LSO, LPO, Royal Opera House, ENO) in the UK and abroad, Tom is also an active online teacher. Lessons are delivered with a recording-quality microphone and high speed internet.
Tom's guitar duo with Laura Snowden won the 1st Ligita International Guitar Duo Competition and performed Frederic Hand's 'Prayer' live with John Williams in a guitar trio arrangement by the composer and multi-instrumentalist Richard Harvey. Tom's work with the London orchestras includes performances of the principal guitar part for John Adams' El Niño in the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer in London (Barbican) and Paris (Philharmonie).
Recent appearances include Stravinsky's 'Tango' as soloist for the LPO at the Royal Festival Hall and as the soloist in René Aubry's 'The Gruffalo' with Britten Sinfonia and Opera North. Recording credits include an appearance on the London Conchord Ensemble's acclaimed CD of Poulenc's entire chamber works ('A constant joy' - Gramophone) for Champs Hill Records and the first recording of Steve Goss' 'Frozen Music' for guitar and string trio for the Cadenza label.
Tom has appeared in productions at the National Theatre (London Road, The Silver Tassie, The Travelling Light), English National Opera (Sunset Boulevard, Merry Widow), Royal Opera House (Winter Dreams 2018/2019), Rambert Dance Company (Ghost Dances 2016/17/18 UK Tour, Wild Horses, Hydrargyrum), Glyndebourne (Don Pasquale), Barbican Theatre (Barry Humphries' Weimar Cabaret) and performed regularly as a dep on the West End production of 'School of Rock'.
Also on Electric Guitar, Tom performed Donovan's 'Sunshine Superman' album live at the Royal Albert Hall alongside Jimmy Page and Danny Thompson with the London Contemporary Orchestra.
Also at the Albert Hall, Tom teaches electric guitar workshops for the Teenage Cancer Trust alongside their annual series of concerts and works regularly performing and teaching with the RAH's outreach team 'Albert's Band'.
