Troubleshooting
Here are a few things that may make you have a better experience during your lesson:
-
Connect to your computer via an ethernet cable instead of using wifi. If you can't do that, place your computer as close as possible to the router. If you can't get your computer near enough to the router for a good signal, you can use a wifi repeater or extender which will extend the coverage of your wifi network
-
Use wired headphones - an extension cable is useful so you can be far enough away from the computer to have freedom to play
-
Often a plug in USB microphone improves the sound. You’ll achieve even better results with more professional equipment such as audio interface with a mic plugged in
-
Check for Zoom updates before everyone music lesson
On your Zoom desktop app, open Settings by clicking on the cog.
You can also click on your profile picture and choose Settings from the drop-down menu.
-
Click on Audio in the menu on the left
-
Uncheck Automatically adjust microphone volume
-
Set Suppress background noise to Low
-
Click on Advanced
On the Advanced settings page do the following:
-
Check the box next to Show in-meeting option to “Enable Original Sound” from microphone
-
Check the disable echo cancellation box (this works best with headphones)
-
Check the high fidelity music mode box (this uses more bandwidth so may not be suitable for everyone)
When you have started your Zoom meeting, check the following before the lesson starts:
-
Check your correct microphone and speakers (or headphones!) are selected
-
Click on the Turn on Original Sound button at the top of your screen if you want to use the advanced audio settings above. This option preserves the sound from your mic and overrides Zoom’s echo cancellation and audio enhancements. It can be turned on/off during the lesson as needed. We advise wearing headphones if you use this option.
